Wacky Pest Wednesday: Fleas

 In News

Hey there Tri-County Pest Control fans, and happy Wednesday!  We’re back with another edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday, and today, we’re going to focus on a pest that is a common fear of pet owners: the flea.

Fleas are definitely a pest that we can all deal without in the world, thanks to their inherent parasitic nature.  They are notorious for latching onto your pet, sucking blood and laying their eggs in both their fur and in your carpet, and can even latch on and bite you.  With this being said, it is extremely important that you keep an eye out for fleas, especially if you own pets, as they can cause an infestation like no other.

To spot a flea, look for a very small critter (about 0.1 inches long), sporting a dark brown hue.  These fellas do not have wings, but rather powerful hind legs that allow them to jump up about 4 feet–over 100 times the size of their body.  Fleas also have a very flat body to them, which makes it very difficult to squash them with a newspaper or a shoe.

One of the telltale signs of a flea infestation is to see them crawling on your furry friend, or to see their red and black droppings.  Both are probable signs of an infestation, and should be taken seriously.  If found on your dog, run him over to the vet to discuss treatment options, and in the meantime give us a call to come treat the house.  Fleas reproduce rapidly, which means that once you have a few fleas in the house, you have a whole swarm just waiting to be unleashed.

Save your time on those Internet DIY treatment options and let the professionals handle it.  We guarantee you that with our expertise, we can have those fleas out in no time, with no harm to you or your family; just in time for the holidays.
