Wacky Pest Wednesday: Skunks

 In News

Happy Wednesday to all you Tri-County Pest Control fans out there, and welcome to our latest edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday.  Please join us today, as we go over a pest that has sure made a name for itself: the skunk.

Skunks are pretty notorious in the world of pests, as we all know the implications that one spray can have.  During this time of year, skunks are very active because it’s the time when all of the baby skunks come into the world, so it is important that you stay on top of things so you don’t find yourself getting sprayed one summer afternoon.

Typically, skunks like to hangout in spots that are less travelled, but also very close to food.  That being said, a prime spot would be right underneath your deck or by the side of your home—where they can be sure that they are protected by a structure and can easily raid your trash can for a quick meal.  However, if there are other holes or debris around your yard, you better believe that a skunk may call that home.

Yet, not all is lost if a skunk is on your property, as these critters can be helpful in reducing the number of other rodents around your property.  This may be all well and good, but keep in mind that it comes at the risk of rabies, since skunks are known to be a common vector of the disease. When placed in this situation, do yourself a favor and err on the side of caution—keep skunks out for good by relying on a comprehensive pest defense plan drafted by the professionals.

Did you know that a skunk can spray up to 20 feet?  With that kind of distance, be sure to tread carefully should you see one!
