Wacky Pest Wednesday: Mosquitoes

 In News

Happy Wednesday, Tri-County Pest Control fans, and welcome to our latest edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday!  This Wednesday, we’re talking about a pest that everyone knows about, and one that can be a great nuisance in these warm summer months: the mosquito.

Mosquitoes are known for their bloodsucking tendencies, but did you know that only the females bite?  While all mosquitoes have long, straw-like noses, only the females use it for taking blood.

A mosquito bite can range any where from a mild annoyance to a severe health risk.  They are known for carrying countless diseases all over the world, ranging from West Nile virus, to malaria, and now Zika.  All three can come with extreme health complications, especially in children and the elderly.

One way you can combat mosquitoes this summer is to make extensive use of citronella candles at dusk, as the smell will drive them way.  Alternatively, if you don’t have candles on hand, a strong mouthwash such as Listerine will work just as well.  Take a paper towel or tissue, soak it in the mouthwash, and rub it all over your arms and legs.  The fresh scent will drive mosquitoes away like the plague.

In addition to these remedies, you can let nature do its work with combating mosquitoes.  Natural predators, such as bats, dragonflies, and toads will gladly take a mosquito as a tasty meal, so having them around your home may not be a bad idea.  In fact, if you are handy with a hammer, you can build a few bat houses to encourage a higher bat population in your yard, ultimately leading to less mosquitoes.

However, no matter how bad a mosquito infestation may seem, always know that Tri-County Pest Control has the means to combat it.  Just give us a call, and we’ll drive out the mosquitoes for good, and come up with a regular maintenance plan to ensure that they do not come back.

To put all of your mosquito woes away for the summer, give us a call today!
