Wacky Pest Wednesday: Millipedes

 In News

A very happy Wednesday to you, Tri-County Pest Control fans!  We invite you to join us for our latest edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday, where we cover a many-legged pest: the millipede.

Even if you do not necessarily know them as a pest, the millipede is a fearsome critter at a first glance.  Containing anywhere from 50 to 750 feet on their bodies, these gentle critters can be enough to scare the socks off of anyone.  Luckily, these critters do not pose a threat to humans, although many people think that they do.  No, when push comes to shove, the worst thing that these guys can do is to eat a lot of your things.

While this poses no threat to your health, it can become a great nuisance if left untreated.  Millipede infestations often come quick and come in large numbers, as these pests will be looking for shelter when the temperature drops or after a heavy rain.  They get into your home the same way many other pests can—through holes in your siding, foundation, and weather stripping.

You can often find these critters holed up in your kitchen, laundry room, crawlspace, or basement, as they love dark and damp spots with plenty of food around.  They get most of their food from decomposing plant and organic matter, so by keeping dying plants out of your home is also an effective tactic to keep them at bay.

Now, there are those times that no matter what you do, these critters still find their way into your home.  When they do, you can either reach for the vacuum to suck them up—or if there are quite a bit—reach for the phone to give us a call.  One call is all you need to get millipedes out, and keep them out.

Be sure to check back next Wednesday for another edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday!
