Wacky Pest Wednesday: Ants

 In News

Howdy all you Tri-County Pest Control fans; we hope your Wednesday is going swell!  To make it a bit better, we bring you our latest edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday, and today we’re talking about the ant.  Keep reading to find out more!

Out of all of the household pests out there, the ant ranks among the top of the list, since no matter what you do, they seem like they just keep on coming.  With colonies that can contain up to 500,000 ants, these critters have a small army ready to raid your kitchen for whatever food you have.  By using their keen sense of smell they can determine how often you have food out, where it is, and can lead a brigade of its fellow critters to bring it back to the colony.

That being said, there are two ways you can deal with an ant infestation in your home: reduce the amount of food you have exposed, or hinder their sense of smell.  The former does not require all that much work—just be sure to clean up after dinner, and get food scraps off of the plates before you put them in the sink.  Now, for the latter, a concoction of water and essential oils (especially peppermint or spearmint) can divert their attention away from your kitchen.  All you need to do is to put the mixture into a spray bottle, observe the path that the ants take to get inside (you can find this by leaving a crumb out and watch an ant take it away) and spray all along the path.

When it comes to ants, one of the largest qualms about do-it-yourself pest control is that it only deals with the ants you can see, while there are many more still hiding in the colony.  The essential oils method will help to starve out the colony, but for guaranteed removal, give the experts at Tri-County Pest Control a call.  One call to us is all you need to stop those pesky ants from hiding all year long.
