Wacky Pest Wednesday: Earwigs

 In News

Hey there all of you Tri-County Pest Control fans and welcome to our newest Wacky Pest Wednesday – where we will share with you all some wild facts we have come across from the pest world we have been entrenched in for more than three decades.

Today’s Wacky Wednesday Pest Fact focuses on earwigs. Enjoy!

According to urban legend, the earwig got its name after it “allegedly” made their way into people’s ears and then tunneled into their brains. In reality, earwigs are not dangerous to humans in any way – despite their off-putting appearance.

What is truly ‘wacky’ about these pests is that they mate using their sense of smell. Once the make is then coupled with his female counterpart, he can attached himself to her in this position and remain there for hours.

Additionally, there are 25 species of earwigs in the United States.
