Termite Prevention Tips

Termite Prevention Tips

  • Remove all stumps, roots, wood, and any other cellulose material from an area before building.
  • Make sure that all form boards and grade stakes are removed once construction is complete.
  • Make sure that there is no contact between the wood of the building and the soil.
  • Any exterior wood should be at least 6 inches away from the soil.
  • Crawlspaces should be at least 18 inches high to allow for wood destroying insect inspections.
  • Make sure that crawlspaces remain free of clutter and are easily accessible for inspections.
  • Install ventilation in the foundation; this will prevent moisture buildup and make the soil less hospitable to termites.
  • Have the structure inspected at least once per year by a qualified professional.
  • Any wood around the structure that contacts the soil should be made of pressure treated wood.
  • Ensure that there is proper grading so rain water does not pool around the foundation.
