Common Pests In Business

 In News

Pests can wreak havoc on the common family home, but they might even cause more damages for local businesses.  It only takes one pest to be spotted, whether it be a bedbug, cockroach, or maggot, to stop customers from coming back, and new ones from coming in.  Today, we’re listing the common types of pests to find in different types of businesses, and what to do if you think you have a pest problem.

Out of all the different types of businesses out there known for having pests, hotels rank the highest.  Infamous for having bedbugs, one bitten customer (or worse, on bedbug-laden internet review) can stop a whole wave of customers from even considering to stay a night.  It only takes one guest to bring a bedbug with him, and if any of the cleaning staff fails to see one, a whole colony can emerge in little to no time.  If you happen to be in the hospitality business, make sure every member of your cleaning staff knows how to check for signs of a bedbug infestation, and does it on a regular basis.  Should you happen to see a sign, call in a pest control company immediately—much better to be safe than sorry.

In addition to hotels, restaurants are another infamous breeding ground for pests.  With food coming in and out of the kitchen constantly—often with the backdoor open for airflow—can attract all sorts of critters.  Should the kitchen floor be covered in some grime, pests like the cockroach will help themselves to a smorgasbord of food.  To avoid pests in the restaurant, be sure to make cleanliness a number one priority.  Not only that, but ensure that all food is stored in airtight containers, because a roach in someone’s soup is enough to get you shut down for good.  Just like the hotel, if you sense an infestation, call in a company right away.

Finally, another hotbed for a pest infestation is the office.  Without a proper vacuuming every so-often, food particles can remain on the ground, which can be an open invitation to pests of all sorts.  Not only that, but boxes of clutter on the ground will make a nice home for mice and roaches.  If you operate an office such as a real estate or doctor’s office where people are coming in and out constantly, one bug can make them turn elsewhere.  Encourage your employees to clean up after themselves, or have your office professionally cleaned.

In all cases, if you think you may have a pest infestation on site, call in a professional pest control company as soon as you can.  The potential business you can lose is something you should not gamble with, as one call can fix it all.
