Wacky Pest Wednesday: Grasshoppers

 In News

Hey there all you Tri-County Pest Control fans, and welcome to our latest edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday!  Come on down and check out this week’s article, as we give you the lowdown on the grasshopper.  Enjoy!

Take a seat, young grasshopper, and let us explain to you the wonders of the grasshopper!  These harmless pests may be an annoyance if they get inside your home, but otherwise they are neat critters to keep around.  With long, powerful legs, they can jump as high as five feet, but normally only do so to flee danger.

The only time you’ll have to worry about these critters is if you’re a gardener, in which case they may give you a good headache.  Although they are not as bad as beetles or stinkbugs, the grasshopper loves to snag a quick meal on some fresh lettuce or other greenery lying around.  A singular one shouldn’t be much harm, but if one day you find half your crop mysteriously gone, then you may have a grasshopper problem on your hands.

One fun fact about these guys that we find particularly interesting is about their ears: while they cannot distinguish between pitch, their auditory sensors (fancy science speak for “ears”) are located on their bellies.  So, if you think hearing your stomach growl is bad, just imagine what it’s like for these guys!

Grasshoppers are truly one of the “cooler” bugs out there.  To learn more about the other types of critters and pests in the world today, be sure to check back next Wednesday for our latest edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday!
