Traveling is something that is on almost everyone’s bucket list, and it is something that we all look forward to doing.  No matter where you plan to go—across the state of across the globe—there are some things that you need to do to get ready, including pest defense.  Join us today as we go over some simple tips to keep the pests away when you’re traveling around!

Plan

This one looks simply at first glance, but it is one of the most commonly overlooked facets of pest defense.  Knowing where you are going and what you are going to do will help your head over heals in being able to prevent against any pests that you may encounter,  For example, if you know that you are going to a tropical region, then planning to bring both bug repellant and mosquito nets can really save you in the long run.  Not only that, but if your itinerary has you going on a hike in the state next door, then you will know to bring clothing that will cover your body to protect against ticks.  Try to know before you go, and plan accordingly.

Inspect

For those trips that may take longer than a day, you will probably find yourself spending the night in a bed that is unfamiliar to you.  Chances are, many people before you have spent a night or two in the same bed, which makes for a perfect place for bedbugs to be.  Sure, these critters may seem terrifying at first glance, but you will soon find out that preventing against them involves nothing more than taking the initiatives and knowing how to spot them.  First, before you even get yourself situated, put down your luggage in another room, and pull back the corners of the sheets on the bed.  Get out your inspecting glasses and look for small, rust-colored spots about the size of the periods on this page, or small, red-colored bugs.  Anything that looks like the aforementioned is a probable sign of bedbugs, and it is in your best interest to find a different place to stay,  These critters do not need to bite you to execute their wrath, as they can easily stow away in your luggage and take a trip back home, causing an infestation right in your own room.

Decompress

After your long journey, you are going to want to take a load of, relax, and reminisce.  However, before you do so, we recommend to take all of your clothes and put them in the dryer on high heat as soon as you can,  By doing so, you are killing off any eggs or pests that may have latched on, keeping your home pest-free.  Take this time to inspect your body, looking for any ticks or bites that could be there, and treat accordingly.

Traveling is one of the many joys in life, and there is no need to let a pesky bug ruin that experience from you.  Just follow these tips, and you will be able to defend against any type of critters, no matter where your travels take you.
