Definition of IPM

According to the EPA, Integrated Pest Management, or IPM is “an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of common-sense practices. IPM programs use current, comprehensive information on the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment. This information, in combination with available pest control methods, is used to manage pest damage by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment.

Low Impact Pesticides

Along with monitoring, record keeping, and mechanical alterations, low impact pesticides are a cornerstone of IPM. Low impact pesticides primarily fall into two categories. First are minimum risk products –these are products in which the active ingredient is harmless or almost harmless to humans and non-target animals. An example of this would be a pheromone trap, which uses an insect’s sex hormone as a lure. Second are pesticides which are formulated in such a way as to greatly reduce the risk of exposure to humans. An example of this would be a ant gel bait that is applied deep into cracks and crevices that children or pets cannot access.

School IPLM Laws

Tri-County has been practicing IPM since before it was law. However, we are experts in IPM law and implementation. We will not only take every step to ensure that you are 100% compliant, our practices far exceed the minimum standards set forth by the government.
