Bats are the only true flying mammals. Most produce a single offspring each year, which make bats the slowest reproducing mammal for their size. Despite this fact, bats account for nearly one quarter of all mammalian species, second only to rodents in population size. There are currently six species of bats that are year round residents of the region and three migratory species. Since bats are predators of pesky flying insects, they can be very beneficial to have around. However, when bats nest inside a home or business, they become a health concern that must be dealt with quickly.
In the Delaware Valley, the majority of problems are caused pigeons and swallows. They commonly become and issue in commercial buildings such as warehouses where delivery and entrance doors are kept open for long periods of time. They also like to roost on the outside of buildings, creating unsightly stains on exterior surfaces. Once they’ve established themselves, they cause serious sanitation problems with droppings. For packaging and food related businesses especially, the FDA requires that the problem is addressed and solved before you continue operating.
The best bird prevention starts with the building process. Installing bird deterrents during initial construction saves time, money, and eliminates the risk of bird born diseases. Retrofitting older structures with bird-proofing is another good option to prevent future bird issues. There are a number of products that we can install, and we will work with you to suit your functional and aesthetic needs.
Bat prevention is best achieved through exclusion. If bats cannot find a point of entry into your structure, then they will search for another structure to take up residence. Tri-County technicians are experts at identifying possible points of entry for bats and sealing them up.
Tri-County Termite & Pest Control employs a variety of methods for getting and keeping birds out. For bird pests, the main goal is to prevent them from “roosting”, or building permanent homes in your commercial structure. If birds cannot find a place to build their nest, they will leave. Like all of the pest control strategies we use, no single method is relied upon, but rather a multi-pronged plan of attack is employed.
“Non-Roosting Materials” are placed on the structural beams birds love to build nests on. These materials irritate their feet and keep them from building permanent homes in or on your structure. We install netting materials inside the roof which also prevent these birds from building nests and becoming “permanent residents”.
Tri-County Termite & Pest Control bat control solutions differ from bird control solutions. Birds are roosting pests, so bird control mainly involves preventing them from building their nests in or on your structure. Bats, however, do not build nests so a different method must be employed. Bat control revolves around the concept of “Exclusion”.
First, Tri-County carefully inspects your building to ascertain exactly where the bats are getting in. Then, the hidden entrances are sealed shut. Whether it’s a small hole in the roof, or a broken window, once properly repaired, the bats are no longer able to get in. As a result, when the bats go out to hunt for food, they find themselves “evicted” from your building when they return.
